On May 20, 1873 Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis received a patent (# 501) on the jeans, pants with rivets on the pockets. The jeans have been a garment which is only grown in popularity. Levi Straus, who was born in southern Germany, was in 1847 with his mother and sisters migrated to the U.S. He started a clothing factory in New York, and in 1853 he focused on supplies for prospectors.
